Combining Uniqueness, Nostalgia and Accessibility

Hey there, friend! At Sow-It, we believe everyone should have a fantastic time on our website, no matter what. We're all about making sure our little corner of the internet is as welcoming as a warm hug, where everyone can easily explore all the personalized goodies we have in store!

Our Aim for a Super-Accessible Website

We’re pretty stoked about making our website as user-friendly as possible. It might not be perfect yet, as we are also still on a journey to improve, but we are trying really hard to make it very accessible to all. We are committed to always looking for ways to make our website better, and we have set our goal to reach a 96 score in Lighthouse, even though many other websites don't do this quite often yet. And who knows, maybe one day we will even get 100! 😉

Our Measures and Considerations

We are trying our very best to make sure that our website checks off all the accessibility boxes, with the goal of having it comply as much as possible to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 (or 2.2!) at the AA level. Because we are also still in the process of learning and improving, here are some of the considerations that we have taken:

We have designed our website with a unique, nostalgic 8-bit theme. This design is important to us as it aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia and connection to a time when technology was beginning to become more prominent in people's lives. While we believe it adds to the charm, we are aware this can impact overall readability for some users.

We are adding descriptions to all images for screen readers. We want everyone to get the full picture of each awesome product we have, also without visual feedback.

We have tried to use the highest contrast possible, but we are also aware that our design choices may sometimes reduce the overall contrast, which can make some things less easy to read.

We are trying our best to make sure the site can be easily used by keyboard navigation, but are also still in the process of learning how best to improve and implement this.

We are doing our best to also support screen readers, and improve the site for these devices, but since we are not experienced in this field, we cannot guarantee complete functionality.

Acknowledging Imperfection (And Aiming Higher!)

We're always looking for new ways to improve and are working hard to fix any accessibility issues. This is not just a promise, but also a commitment! We acknowledge that some areas of our site might not be completely accessible yet. We're still learning, growing, and aiming for a super-smooth experience for everyone. Please understand that as we are starting and also not an expert in web accessibility just yet we cannot guarantee that everything will be fully accessible just yet. But know that we are doing our very best!
